Research Interests: Topics in kidney disease and hypertension, including mechanisms of kidney inflammation and fibrosis and on outcomes and therapy of patients with atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS).
Dr. Dworkin conducts laboratory research on the mechanisms of progressive Kidney failure and its prevention. He is also a clinical investigator and was the study chair for the CORAL trial, a large, multicenter, randomized clinical trial funded by NHLBI that compared outcomes in patients with atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS) treated medically with those that also receive stent revascularization. The results of the CORAL trial were published inn 2014 in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Dr. Dworkin has published over 100 articles on a variety of topics in kidney disease and hypertension, including mechanisms of kidney inflammation and fibrosis and on outcomes and therapy of patients with ARAS. He has also authored more than 50 book chapters and review articles focusing on topics such as the renal microcirculations, glomerular hemodynamics in health and disease, as well as mechanisms of acute and chronic kidney injury.
