Our dedicated volunteers are a valuable part of the UToledo Health team, helping us meet the needs of our patients, families, guests and staff.

From welcoming visitors and providing directions to answering phones and assisting our clerical staff, volunteers help us maintain a compassionate, patient-centered environment.

Volunteer Opportunities

UToledo Health has a diverse group of volunteers, ranging from college students exploring careers in healthcare to retirees looking to share their experience and give back to their community.

No clinical experience is required.

Our volunteers serve in a variety of nonclinical roles throughout the University of Toledo Medical Center. Current volunteer opportunities include:

Liaison Assistants

• Greet patients and guests
• Answer questions about the hospital
• Provide directions
• Assist with patient registration and navigation

Gift Shop Volunteers

• Provide customer service
• Operate the registers
• Answer phone calls
• Make deliveries throughout the hospital

Surgery Waiting Room Volunteers

• Support patients and visitors in the waiting area
• Promote a peaceful and welcoming environment
• Answer phone calls
• Escort patients to their surgery location

Clerical Office Volunteers

• Answer phone calls
• Label charts
• Assist with filing, faxing and deliveries
• Provide administrative support

Basic Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old or receive department sponsorship and required approvals if you are 14–17 years old
• Complete a volunteer application
• Successfully complete required background checks and medical screenings
• Commit to a regular volunteering schedule of at least three hours per week
