Apply to Volunteer

Volunteers play an important role in supporting our patients, visitors and staff. To learn more about current opportunities or begin the application process, contact Volunteer Services at 419.383.6330 or volunteerservices@utoledo.edu.

Individuals age 18 and older may apply directly. Applicants ages 14-17 must first obtain sponsorship from a hospital department and meet additional approval requirements.

Please note that volunteers participating in research are not cleared through the Volunteer Services office and must follow the procedure regarding Volunteers in Academic Research, Scholarship and University Activities.

Application Process

• Submit an application through UToledo Health Volunteer Services.
• Applications are reviewed for eligibility. Qualified applicants will be asked to complete a background check, medical screening and other onboarding requirements.
• Approved volunteers are matched with available opportunities based on hospital needs and volunteer interests and availability.
• Assigned departments provide information on orientation, department-specific training, scheduling and continuing education.
• Those ages 14–17 who are interested in volunteering must be sponsored by a department and secure special approval, in adherence with the University’s Minors on Campus Policy.

Volunteer Commitment

• Volunteers are required to volunteer a minimum of three hours a week for a period of at least three months, unless otherwise approved by Volunteer Services.
• Volunteers are expected to follow the rules and guidelines established for all students, faculty and staff at UToledo Health and The University of Toledo.
• Volunteers are required to wear a UToledo Health photo identification badge and follow the UTMC hospital dress code.
• Volunteers must keep their file current and up to date, including but not limited to completing annual HIPAA training and medical screening requirements.
• Volunteers must report hours to Volunteer Services.
• Volunteers must notify Volunteer Services when they stop volunteering.
