Facility Features
3.0T and 1.5T MRI Wide Bore scanners: We operate a GE Signa Premier- The most powerful commercially available 3.0T scanner available offering images of the body with more detail and clarity than ever before. This enables UTMC to provide more information to your physician for a better and more confident diagnosis and associated treatment plan. In addition, UTMC can offer a variety of highly specialized and advanced MR imaging capabilities. The scan speed of our GE Signa Premier scanner in conjunction with quiet technology for those with a low noise tolerance threshold and its revolutionary blanket coil technology allow patients to be more comfortable and complete the exams in substantially less time.
We also offer the Siemens Magnetom Espree – a 1.5T MRI which meets the needs of patients with conditionally MRI approved stents and pacemakers.
Digital Mammography UTMC is pleased to offer the newest technology for breast cancer prevention and early detection, the Lorad® Selenia™ Digital Mammography System from Hologic®.
Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is viewed and, more importantly, manipulated. The radiologist can magnify the images, increase or decrease the contrast and invert black and white values while reading the images. These features allow the radiologist to evaluate microcalcifications and focus on areas of concern.
Digital mammography images can be viewed in seconds, allowing the mammographer to confirm proper positioning, reducing the likelihood of having to come back for additional images. Digital mammography feels identical to conventional screening from a patient's perspective, though women may notice shorter exam times and a reduction in call-backs to obtain additional images. Demand for the digital mammography is high, and women are excited and pleased that UTMC offers this state-of-the-art technology.
Aquilion ONE ViSION Highly detailed pictures of a patient’s anatomy and pathology are critical when diagnosing a range of conditions, including heart disease. That is why The UT Medical Center has added to its comprehensive imaging suite an Aquilion ONE ViSION, one of the most advanced multi-slice computed tomography technology for the detection and treatment of heart disease, from Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. The new 320-row CT allows detailed images of the heart viewed faster, avoiding invasive procedures. These high-resolution images enable physicians to clearly visualize the heart, its vessel walls and surrounding structures to detect the early onset of coronary heart disease and reduce the need for high-risk surgical procedures. Approximately 70 percent of diagnostic catheterizations yield negative results. The 320-slice CT is a practical and cost-effective diagnostic tool for coronary disease.
Philips GEMINI TF Big Bore PET/CT: The large 85cm opening provides increased flexibility in patient positioning to accommodate injuries as well as additional space for claustrophobic patients. The open track design allows CT and PET gantries to mechanically separate, making the system more comfortable, and less "tunnel like". The Time-of-Flight technology allows for more precise localization and detection of smaller lesions (tumors). The Philips Gemini System has a higher level of sensitivity than other conventional cameras, which allows for faster scan times, and less radioactive material administered to the patient, which reduces radiation dose. UTMC also offers 4D Respiratory Gating with Real-Time Position Management. This produces better localization of small lesions in areas of high motion due to breathing, improving the quality of the scan, which will assist your physician in diagnosis and treatment planning.
