Trauma Care
As a Level II Trauma Center, the University of Toledo Medical Center provides immediate, life-saving care for critically injured patients 24 hours a day.
Our multidisciplinary trauma team is led by experienced trauma surgeons and includes advanced practice providers, emergency medicine providers, critical care specialists, orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, nurses and other healthcare professionals who work together to provide comprehensive care throughout hospitalization and recovery.
With dedicated trauma and surgical critical care services, a specialized surgical intensive care unit and access to specialists across UToledo Health, we’re prepared to care for patients with some of the region's most serious and complex injuries.
When Trauma Care is Needed
Trauma care is required when a person experiences a serious injury that may be life-threatening or requires specialized surgical and critical care. Common injuries treated by our trauma team include:
- Motor vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, and pedestrian injuries
- Gunshot wounds and other penetrating injuries
- Falls, including ground-level and high-impact falls
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spine and spinal cord injuries
- Chest, abdominal, and pelvic injuries
- Fractures and complex orthopaedic injuries
- Major burns and other significant soft tissue injuries
Compassionate, Comprehensive Care
At UToledo Health, we are committed to providing exceptional care for patients with life-threatening injuries while supporting their families through treatment and recovery.
Our Trauma Services team coordinates care throughout a patient’s hospital stay, working closely with surgical specialists, critical care providers, rehabilitation services and other healthcare professionals across UToledo Health to address complex injuries and support recovery.
A traumatic injury affects more than just the patient. Our team works closely with patients and their loved ones to provide education, guidance and support.
Community Education and Injury Prevention
Preventing injuries is an important part of our mission. UToledo Health offers community
education programs such as CarFit, Stepping On fall prevention workshops and Stop
the Bleed training, and partners with local organizations to support community safety
initiatives.
