Patient and Visitor Code of Conduct
As a community-focused teaching hospital, The University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) is committed to providing a safe, caring and inclusive space for all to receive and deliver care. For the health, safety and comfort of our patients and staff, UTMC has established the following guidelines in our Code of Conduct. All patients and visitors are expected to treat others with courtesy and respect. Disorderly, racist, discriminatory, hostile or harassing behavior is not tolerated.
Examples of these include:
- Offensive or discriminatory comments toward others regarding their race, accent,
religion, gender, sexual orientation or other personal traits - Refusal to see a clinician or other staff member based on these personal traits
- Physical or verbal threats and assaults
- Sexual or vulgar words or actions
- Disrupting another patient’s care
- Taking photographs, audio recording or video recording that may interfere with the
care being provided to other patients and their visitors or impact their privacy.
Adherence to the Code of Conduct keeps our facilities safe and our staff focused
on our patients’ care. Patients and visitors who violate the Code of Conduct may be
removed from the facility, have their access to the campus limited, or be asked to
make plans elsewhere for any future non-emergency care, in accordance with Ohio state
law.
If you witness or are the target of any of these behaviors while at UTMC, please report
it to a member of your care team.
We thank you for your cooperation.
