Residency Admissions Process
With the goal of compliance with ABPTRFE Quality Standard 3.1, we strive to support a diverse pool of applicants and an inclusive interview process. The timeline below was created to eliminate barriers to admissions such as time, cost and travel. Applicants are encouraged to reach out to the Program Coordinator with questions at any point in the process or if assistance is needed.
Recruitment
- Annual communication with UToledo D.P.T. Program
- Bi-annual virtual open house. Online platform used to promote a diverse applicant pool. Invitations shared with DPT program directors in surrounding states.
- Program promotion by faculty at variety of professional conferences.
Application Process
- Applications submitted via RF-PTCAS
- Application window: October 1st through December 31st.
- Application to include:
- 3 letters of recommendation (2 clinical and 1 academic).
- Current resume that includes description of clinical experiences.
- Written narrative submission related to the applicant’s interest in area of specialization.
- Transcripts from D.P.T program.
- Eligible to practice in Ohio — RF-PTCAS confirms that applicants are eligible to practice based on state requirements.
- All applicants with a completed application will be offered an online interview. The
interview team will include a minimum of 3 individuals. The interview will include
a combination of the following individuals: residency faculty, program coordinator,
residency director, and/or relevant UToledo community partners.
- Interview will include a standardized list of interview questions used with all applicants.
- Interview will include a progressive clinical reasoning case.
- At the conclusion of the interview, the team will discuss any team members potential for implicit bias related to the applicant/interview.
- A rubric is utilized to evaluate each applicant to enhance standardization of their
overall assessment. Points will be given in the following areas:
- Letters of recommendation
- Narrative response
- Interview
- Clinical reasoning case preparation and discussion
