Procedures offered
Robotic/Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery
At The University of Toledo Medical Center Bariatric Surgery Program, we offer a diverse range of robotic or laparoscopic bariatric surgical procedures. Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical technique that uses small incisions and long pencil-like instruments to perform operations with a camera. Advantages include more rapid recovery, reduced pain and much smaller scars.
- Robotic/Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy
- In gastric sleeve surgery, also called vertical sleeve gastrectomy, the surgeon removes a portion of the stomach, leaving only a narrow tube or sleeve connected to the intestines. The remaining stomach can only hold a limited amount of food, making you feel full sooner.
- Robotic/Laparoscopic Roux-en-y gastric bypass
- In the gastric bypass surgery, also called Roux-en-Y gastric bypass the surgeon staples the upper section of the stomach creating a small gastric pouch about the size of an egg. The pouch is surgically connected to the small intestine which causes your food to bypass the stomach, so your body absorbs fewer calories.
- Robotic/Laparoscopic procedures to manage complications following a previous bariatric
surgery
