Community Education and Injury Prevention
As part of our mission to improve the health and safety of our Northwest Ohio community, UToledo Health offers a variety of education and injury prevention programs for healthcare professionals and the general public.
Stop the Bleed
No matter how quickly emergency responders arrive, bystanders are often the first
people on the scene of serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.
Stop the Bleed is a nationally recognized program that teaches members of the public
proper bleeding control techniques, including how to use their hands, dressings, and
tourniquets to stabilize an injured person until professional medical help arrives.
A person experiencing severe bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes. By learning these simple, life-saving techniques, community members can be prepared to provide assistance in the event of an emergency.
Those who participate in this one-hour course receive Stop the Bleed Certification.

Stepping On: Fall Prevention
UToledo Health is pleased to present Stepping On, a free seven-week workshop on fall prevention for seniors ages 60 and up.
Stepping On targets seniors who are not walker dependent. Each session features guest speakers from the community sharing helpful information on topics including:
- Identifying and avoiding fall hazards
- Adaptable strength and balance exercises
- Vision, hearing and medication
- Community safety

CarFit
A proper fit in one's car can greatly increase not only the driver's safety but also the safety of others.
is an educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles "fit” them. The CarFit program also provides information and materials on community-specific resources to enhance safety for drivers and increase their mobility in the community.
A certified CarFit Tech from UToledo Health serves at CarFit events, where trained technicians and/or health professionals work with each participant to ensure they "fit" their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety.
A CarFit check takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Programs are offered at various off-site locations in the community, including local senior centers.
