PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

Providing experiences in Managed Care, Ambulatory Care, and Community

Why complete this residency:

The program is designed to provide a learning environment whereby the resident is trained to achieve professional competence in the delivery of patient-centered care and pharmacy services.  This residency program offers numerous unique experiences not traditionally offered by other PGY1 programs. Residency learning experiences are conducted primarily in outpatient, community, transitions of care and ambulatory care settings. Each rotation contains elements of fundamental managed care practice concepts learned while managing the University of Toledo self-insured prescription benefit.  A teaching certificate program is available and provides an opportunity for the resident to gain teaching experiences in the classroom, small group teaching and with oversight of other learners.

This hybrid program trains our resident to meet the needs of the new practice model of pharmacy and expanding areas of pharmacy practice.   The preceptors of this program are committed to creating exceptional clinicians and strong leaders.  This residency is flexible in that the resident will be actively involved in their own developmental plan to fit their individual interests and career path.

A pharmacy resident completing this program will excel as a leader in pharmacy practice and be prepared to work in numerous diverse care environments, be eligible for board certification and eligible for a PGY2 pharmacy residency program.
