Anticoagulation Clinic
The University of Toledo Medical Center’s Anticoagulation Clinic provides medication management for cardiac patients who have been prescribed blood thinner (anticoagulation) medications.
Blood thinner medication therapy can bring great rewards in treating a variety of heart conditions. But this medication also comes with risks. Management by an anticoagulation specialist is essential for achieving a successful outcome.
For instance, the body’s response to the treatment can change rapidly, with each person’s response varying uniquely based on factors such as diet, medications and lifestyle. Regular blood testing is critical for precisely monitoring and adjusting dosages of a patient's medication.
Our experienced clinical staff members coordinate with your primary healthcare providers and other specialists to provide comprehensive management of medications.
Pharmacists in our clinic are highly trained to manage oral and injectable anticoagulation therapy. They will closely monitor your therapy, adjust your medication and teach you how to stay safe while taking your medication.
Services include:
- Point-of-care testing
- Medication adjustment
- Close supervision and monitoring for effectiveness and side effects
- Patient education
- Bridging anticoagulant therapy around surgery or other invasive procedures
- Screening and counseling about food-drug and drug-drug interactions
Location
The clinic is located on the second floor, suite B of The University of Toledo Medical Center Main Hospital on The University of Toledo's Health Science Campus.
